Chronology of Negotiations
In April 2022, negotiations began between the University of Illinois Chicago and representatives from UIC United Faculty, the labor union representing, among others, certain tenure/tenure-track and non-tenure-track faculty at UIC. By mutual agreement and is standard practice, negotiations first focused solely on resolving the non-economic issues identified by the parties. Negotiations around economic issues first started in Oct. 2022.
Throughout these negotiations, both between the parties directly and with the support of an independent federal mediator, the university has worked diligently to reach a fair and fiscally responsible contract without disruption to the teaching and learning environment at UIC.

The university and UICUF met for the 34th time - our 15th session with the federal mediator. UIC reached a tentative agreement on a final contract with UIC United Faculty.

The university and UICUF met for the 33rd time - our 14th session with the federal mediator. Productive discussions were made toward narrowing the differences on all remaining issues between UIC and UIC United Faculty. Learn more.

Dec. 16, 2022
The university and UICUF met for the 26th time. Both parties reached a verbal agreement on revised language for the hours of work and commitment article, but a written version had to be shared in the following days for each side to review. This was completed Dec. 19 and a tentative agreement was reached on the article.

The university and UICUF met for the 25th time - our eighth session with the federal mediator. The parties met in person for almost three hours.
Dec. 9, 2022
The university and UICUF met for the 24th time - our seventh session with the federal mediator. A tentative agreement was reached on the non-discrimination and anti-harassment article.
Dec. 6, 2022
The university and UICUF met for the 23rd time - our sixth session with the federal mediator. The parties met via Zoom for two hours.
Nov. 28, 2022
The university and UICUF met for the 22nd time - our fifth session with the federal mediator. The parties met in person for over two hours.
Nov. 22, 2022
The university and UICUF met for the 21st time - our fourth session with the federal mediator. The parties met for two hours via Zoom. A tentative agreement was reached on the union membership and activity article.
Nov. 14, 2022
The university and UICUF met for the 20th time - our third session with the federal mediator. The parties met in person. A tentative agreement was reached on the grievance and arbitration article.
Nov. 7, 2022
The university and UICUF met for the 19th time - our second session with the federal mediator. The parties met in person for three hours.
Oct. 31, 2022
The university and UICUF met for the 18th time - our first session with the federal mediator. The parties reached tentative agreements on academic freedom and access to personnel file.

The university and UICUF met for the 17th time.
Oct. 17, 2022
The university and UICUF met for the 16th time. The parties agreed to add a federal mediator to the negotiation sessions and to continue bargaining while awaiting the mediator’s assignment and schedule.

The university and UICUF met for the 13th time. The parties met for two hours. The parties reached a tentative agreement on the health and safety article.
Sept. 20, 2022
The university and UICUF met for the 12th time. The parties met in person for about two and a half hours.
Sept. 12, 2022
The university and UICUF met for the 11th time. The parties met in person for almost two and a half hours. Both parties agreed to a revision of the article on recognition that was tentatively agreed to Aug. 22.

The university and UICUF met for the 10th time. The parties met via Zoom for two hours and agreed to meet on a weekly basis.

The university and UICUF met for the seventh time. The parties met for two hours.

The university and UICUF met for the sixth time.
June 27, 2022
The university and UICUF met for the fifth time. The meeting was held in person. A tentative agreement was reached on labor management meetings.

The university and UICUF met for the fourth time. The parties met via Zoom for two hours.

The university and UICUF met for the third time. The parties met via Zoom for two hours.
May 4, 2022
The university and UICUF met for the second time. The parties met via Zoom for two hours. Tentative agreements were reached on seven articles (purpose, management rights, diversity and affirmative action, no strike/no lockout, electronic availability, savings clause, and entire agreement).
